QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth said a lot was learned during their opening pre-season friendly in Austria.

The Sky Bet Championship club fell to a 3-0 defeat against Czech side Slavia Prague, for whom Lukas Provod, Oscar Dorley and Mick van Buren all netted, as Chris Willock had an effort ruled out in reply.

Taylor Richards was denied by a fine save from Ondrej Kolar, as Ainsworth made nine changes during the interval.

And the manager felt the scoreline was an accurate reflection given the difference between the sides.

“They are a Europa Conference side, they have been back three or four weeks, and I thought their sharpness in the game definitely showed," he told qpr.co.uk.

“It was a good workout for our boys. We rested a few and Jake Clarke-Salter came off as he got a kick on his calf so we didn’t want to risk anything.

“There was that little sharpness over five yards that they had on us today and I thought 3-0 was a fair reflection.”

Matteo Salamon, Paul Smyth, Ossie Kakay, Sinclair Armstrong and Leon Balogun sat out the fixture as the coaching team carefully manage player loadings through pre-season.

But Sam Field and Hamzad Kargbo got 60 minutes of action and Ainsworth added: "One or two impressed me, I thought there were some really good performances but I don’t want to single anyone out.

“I am looking forward now to seeing what we can do on Saturday [against Austrian side, Vorwarts Steyr].

“We are slowly ramping things up to make sure we are right up there for the first game of the season.

“I have had a lot of pre-seasons. Pre-season results mean nothing, it is about that first league game, I will make sure these boys are firing and I can’t wait for that.”

The club saw goalkeeper Seny Dieng join Middlesbrough at the weekend, after Rob Dickie's earlier departure for Bristol City.

And Ainsworth said: "“Patience is needed. We have to adhere to FFP and I am working really hard with Lee Hoos and the board.

“I want a few players in the building and I have targets. I know what I want to bring in. We want quality players to join this quality squad.”

*Former QPR co-chairman Tony Fernandes has left the club after 12 years to concentrate on other business interests.

The club have announced the Malaysian businessman "no longer holds any shares in QPR Holdings Limited".

Fernandes took over Rangers in 2011 along with Ruben Gnanalingam and Kamarudin Meranun but stepped aside as co-chairman in 2018.

He has now decided to leave the Loftus Road outfit altogether, telling qpr.co.uk: "My involvement with QPR has been an incredible period of highs and lows.

"I am a passionate person and that means the good times have meant so much but, equally, the tough times have hurt.

"This decision to step away is made with a heavy heart. I would like to thank the supporters who I have experienced the last decade of adventures with.

"I will continue to look out for QPR's results and wish the board nothing but success for the future."
