Kilburn fencer Anna Bentley says the team’s fortunes will be her top priority when she travels to Sicily for the World Championships this weekend.
The 30-year-old foil specialist is part of the 19-strong British squad and will compete in both the individual and team events in Catania.
Bentley, who finished 13th on the individual stage at the European Championships recently, harbours personal ambitions to appear at next year’s Olympics.
And she knows a top 10 finish for the team, where she joins Natalia Sheppard, Martina Emmanuel and Sophie Trioano, – will help her realise that ambition.
“We’re completely focused on the Worlds but they’re obviously a stepping stone to hopefully qualifying for London,” said Bentley. “London 2012 is the reason we get up every day and train.
“If we get a top 10 in the team event, that will push us towards London, and likewise if I make the quarter-finals.”
