QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand says he remains confident of bringing Chris Ramsey back to the club in the near future – and believes he can play a vital role in coaching education at Loftus Road should he return.

Ramsey was relieved of his first-team duties last month following a run of just two wins in 10 games, but Ferdinand is hoping that the 53-year-old will now come back to play an integral role in youth development and assisting coaches at the club.

The Times understands Ramsey is in advanced talks with the club about returning to work in the academy with a decision expected in the next week.

However, the former Tottenham coach also has other firm offers on the table and will weigh up all his options before making a decision.

Ferdinand said: “I’d like to bring him (Chris) back to the club in some capacity, not just as head of youth but I want him to coach our coaches.

“Coach education is as important as coaching the kids.

“If they’re not coaching the right things you’re never going to develop them. That’s why I want Chris to come back into the club as that’s going to be his role.”

Elsewhere, Steve Gallen’s future at the club remains uncertain, with Ferdinand refusing to confirm if his 18-year spell at QPR was coming to an end.

He added: “That’s down to Jimmy. He has to look at what he wants. He’s brought David Oldfield in. We need a constant at the football club.

“I don’t want a new manager bringing in four or five people in every time and then four or five people leave when the manager does.

“I need a few constants at the football club. I know he wants to improve on his coaching staff but that will come in time.”
