Harrow Borough were hit by late arrivals for their Ryman League Premier Division trip to Staines Town and had to battle to a 0-0 draw.

Marc Charles-Smith, Kurtis Cumberbatch and Harry Newman were held up in getting to a wet Wheatsheaf Park throwing Harrow’s pre-match plans into disarray.

But even their arrival could not spark life into this game which petered out into a stalemate.

It does keep Harrow’s recent ndefeated run going, however, stretching it to four games, and keeps them solidly in mid-table in 13th.

The late arrivals meant a makeshift team thrown together by manager Steve Baker.

Josh Webb came in at right back, Lewis Ochoa moved into midfield and there was a start for new signing Tumba Bokula alongside Lewis Driver up front.

The hosts looked the more threatening in the early moments, with their forwards dominating in the air, particularly down their left wing and at corners.

Webb limped off after 17 minutes to be replaced by Cumberbatch but Staines continued to have most of the play.

The Harrow goal had already had several lucky escapes before Luke Williams made a brilliant save to tip the ball round the foot of the post following a Staines free kick.

A minute later he had to sprint off his line to win a crunching 50-50 tackle with a marauding Staines forward.

Harrow had a couple of half chances in the first half, notably a shot from Lomas which went over the corner of the post and two right wing crosses which were scrambled away by the Staines defence.

If the first period contained little of attacking note from Harrow, the second half was even worse, with Jack Turner in the Staines goal having little to do, leaving him plenty of time to chat to the Harrow fans behind the goal.

His main problem was the position of a floodlight to his right, which was blinding him when he had to take the occasional Harrow cross from that side.

Staines again had most of the action, enjoying particular success down the left wing, but Williams made further outstanding saves and Shaun Preddie was impressive in the middle.

Staines did find the net twice but from offside positions and also had a header cleared off the line.

Williams’ saves proved the highlight for Harrow supporters, with the most notable action coming from the pole dancing practice in the adjoining sports club.
