Brent residents warned the deadline to register to vote in the general election is hours away

Residents who have not registered to vote have hours to do so.

Brent Council is urging all eligible voters that the deadline for registration to vote in the general election on May 7 is at midnight tonight.

The new system of Individual Electoral Registration (IER) means voting is no longer by household.

Eligible voters need their National Insurance number or other government-issued identification.

Sean O’Sullivan, Brent Council’s Electoral Services Manager, said more than 7,000 residents have registered in the last two months: “There are still thousands of people who could be on the electoral register but still haven’t registered. If you’re one of those people I’d urge you to register today.”

Students who are living away at university can also register at both their term time address and home address.

You can register online by visiting or by calling the electoral services office on 020 8937 1372.
