A Wombles fan has paid tribute to the 1970s children’s programme by carrying out an April Fool’s joke at Kensal Green train station.

The mystery prankster has added a sticker saying ‘wombling free’ to the sign which states ‘Underground Overground’, much to the amusement of commuters.

The theme song to the popular series which featured fictional environmentally-friendly furry creatures started ‘Underground Overground Wombling free, the Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we.’

A resident told the Times the sticker appeared overnight.
