TOMMY Williams has admitted he regrets his ill-fated attempt at goal in the 2003 play-off final - but disagrees that he should have passed to Paul Furlong.
Williams, who was then - as now - on loan to QPR, infamously sped from inside his own half at the Millennium Stadium but fired into the side netting instead of squaring the ball to Furlong.
Rangers went on to suffer heartbreak in extra-time as Andy Campbell's goal handed Cardiff promotion at their expense, and Williams told the Times: "My wife asked me the other day why people still go on about that.
"I'd been out for four months with torn ankle ligaments, came back and set up the equaliser in the first leg of the semi-final at Oldham and also stopped Wayne Andrews making it 2-0 after Danny Shittu had slipped.
"Those things get forgotten - people only remember the everlasting 'he should have passed to Furlong'. The thing is that Andy Thomson was actually in a better position than Paul Furlong!
