A pop and soul singer living in Willesden is hoping to thrill audiences after featuring in new BBC talent show Let It Shine.

Jordan Charles moved to London from Nuneaton last May to chase his dreams and pursue a career in music.

Auditioning for Let It Shine proved the perfect opportunity and he is now vying for a place in a brand new boy band which will star in a National Theatre Tour showcasing songs by Take That.

The show features judges Gary Barlow, Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp and Amber Riley and opened to 6.3m viewers.

Jordan now hopes his stint on the show, with the help of a little local inspiration, will propel him to stardom.

“When I auditioned for Let It Shine, I didn’t even have a house!” he said.

“I was crashing on a friends couch in Willesden, desperately trying to find somewhere to stay.

“I moved to London with no money because I knew I wanted to follow my dreams and become a musician. Everyone knows London’s the place to be if you’re an artist!”

The singer, who has been performing since he was four and has already won awards as a choir director and vocalist, now draws inspiration from his new surroundings.

“I literally go past Wembley Stadium every day,” he continued.

“It was the reason I moved to London – to be close to all that history. I saw Beyonce there last year and have been to see Coldplay. Just being close to it, to feel the history.”

Jordan recently released his debut single ‘Beast’ which garnered more than 1,000 views within the first hour of its release.

In 2012, he led Warwick University’s Glee Club to victory in the national Masters of Show Choir competition, beating established choirs such as the formidable Cambridge University Show Choir.

Speaking about his upcoming appearance, Jordan said: “This is an incredible opportunity!

“I still haven’t taken it all in, to be honest. I get a massive shock every time I see myself on the telly.

“My friends and I watched the first episode together and everyone kept cheering whenever I appeared on screen - even if it was just for a second!

“Meeting Gary Barlow and Amber Riley is without a doubt the most nerve racking thing I’ve ever done.

“I didn’t need to worry, though. They were both lovely in the end!”

You can catch Jordan’s audition on this Saturday’s show at 7pm on BBC1.
