Capital City Academy students top 90 per cent pass rate

Pupils in Willesden ended the long summer wait for their GCSE results today with more than 90 per cent of pupils passing.

Pupils arrived throughout the morning to Capital City Academy, for the annual results day, a right of passage for schoolchildren.

92 per cent of pupils were awarded A* to G grades, including both English and Maths, with 40 per cent achieving A* to C.

The school, in Doyle Gardens, also boasted some fantastic individual achievers.

Among those with some of the best results included Marley Gibbons-Balfour who got a clean sweep of A*s and As in 11 exams.

The 16-year-old, who was given 3 A*s in all three sciences, his favourite subjects, told the Times: “It’s definitely exceeded my expectations, I wanted to get A’s in the sciences because that’s what I want to pursue at college and I hope to do engineering at university.

“I’ve met some great people here so I am looking forward to starting my A-levels here next term.”

Meanwhile, fellow 16-year-old and performing arts enthusiast, Eleanor Walsh achieved 3A*s, 4As, 3Bs and 1C.

The relieved student, who will be heading to the BRIT school of technology and performing arts in Croydon, said: “I am so delighted, I have been dreading this day for weeks and it’s great to finally have it off my back.

“It’s great to have done well but feels a bit surreal to have finished this chapter of my life.”

Alex Thomas, head teacher said: “I would like to offer congratulations to our students who scored some fantastic results for their GCSEs.

““Special mention should be made of students who received very large numbers of A* and A grades.

“We are also proud of those who have made a significant progress in a short space of time at Capital.”
