You may have noticed something slightly different if you wondered past Willesden Green tube station today.
That is because the station has been transformed into a wild woodland, and quite literally lived up to its name.
The Chewing Gum Action Group (CGAG) has created the UK’s first tube station surrounded by a pop up woodland, named the Gum Forest, to raise awareness of responsible gum disposal.
Mosses, ferns and toadstools have engulfed the station entrance, birch trees are bursting from pavements, and fallen logs cover the streets. The sounds of birds and running streams fill the air.
CGAG believe that a natural setting is likely to deter people from littering their gum.
The forest will only be in Willesden today but the forest will be divided up in community gardens across Brent.
Cllr Krupesh Hirani said the natural environment feature looked amazing whilst @WBABenbow tweeted: Looks great! Would be good to keep it that green permanently.’
