Why is it often such a chore to get a child a haircut?

Either you suffer the indignity of the stylist chasing your scissor-phobic toddler around the room, or you’re bumped to an inconvenient appointment by salons who prefer the more lucrative adult cuts.

Now Snipkidz in Willesden Green is taking the stress and tantrums out of children’s grooming with a dedicated salon for the under 12s.

Whether your daughter’s bed-head has reached dreadlock proportions, or your son has carried out some self-styling with the kitchen scissors, the staff won’t - ahem - turn a hair at the state of their barnets.

On our visit to the brightly coloured salon, my four-year-old had the choice of sitting in a Jeep or Mini Cooper complete with buttons to twiddle, flashing lights and sounds.

Making a beeline for the Jeep she sat there happily watching Frozen on the TV monitor as the stylist cut in a fringe and tidied up her ends.

Meanwhile the seven-year-old who is often a bit of a live wire, played with some Lego while he waited his turn.

Once the little one had finished he got up on a stool to have his own unruly locks tamed into a smarter do.

Opened in February by local Willesden couple Louise Hadi and Ajay Kawa the salon was inspired by their own difficulties getting their young daughter’s hair cut.

As you’d expect, all the staff are super patient and aware that some kids find the business of having their hair chopped quite scary.

There’s nothing to fear here - it actually makes the experience fun - and the promise of a lollipop at the end doesn’t hurt a bit.

Haircuts from £7 for a fringe trim to £15 for 7-12s. Braiding from £10-£20 Styling including wash and blow dry, curling, hair up and party dos range from £14-£24. Snipkidz is at 7, Queens Parade, Walm Lane, NW2 0203 8590567 info@snipkidz.com
