Brent Labour has chosen its candidate to replace former mayor Lesley Jones, whose death led to the suspension of the Willesden Green ward election earlier this month.
Lesley died on April 30, three days before the local elections were set to take place. She was due to stand again in the ward she had represented for the last 20 years.
A by-election will now take place on June 21, and on Wednesday night Labour members voted for Elliot Chappell to stand in her place.
He said on Twitter: “Grateful and excited to have been selected as a Brent Labour candidate for Willesden Green, looking forward to the campaign!”
