The flag at Brent Civic Centre is flying at half mast today in solidarity with all those killed and injured in yesterday’s alleged terror attack in Westminster, which saw four people die.

A man drove a car into pedestrians walking on Westminster Bridge, leaving several seriously injured, before running into the Parliament grounds and fatally stabbing Pc Keith Palmer.

He was then shot dead by armed police officers.

Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: “We are all profoundly saddened by the terrible scenes on the streets of London yesterday. Our thoughts and condolences are with everyone who has been affected, particularly the families and friends of those killed or injured.

“It is at times like these that we all need to remember, whatever our differences, that the bonds that unite us are deep and enduring and stronger than any attempt to turn us against each other.”

There will be extra police on the streets of Brent this weekend. Increased security measures will be in place around Wembley Stadium which is hosting the World Cup qualifier between England and Lithuania on Sunday.

Many Londoners have started using the #Westandtogether hashtag to show their solidarity and unity with one another and there is also a vigil in Westminster this evening from 6pm.

The police are advising people to stay “alert but not alarmed”.

The council urges anyone who sees anything suspicious to call police on 0800 789 321, or – in an emergency – 999.
