A section of Wembley High Street is set to battle it out with other towns to be crowned the best in the capital as part of a new government sponsored competition.
Wembley Triangle has been shortlisted in the London category and faces stiff competition from Wood Street in Waltham Forest and Market Place and Ancient Market place, both in Kingston.
The contest, dubbed Great British High Street Awards, is being run by the Future High Streets Forum (FHSF) and received more than 135 entries from across the UK .
They were whittled down to a shortlist of 21 and will now be visited by a member of the judging panel consisting of key players from the FHSF.
There are seven categories – coastal, market town, city, village, local parade, town centre and London.
The winners of each division will receive a share of £50,000 and receive support from industry experts such as advice on digital marketing, workshops and creating business plans.
Penny Mordaunt, high streets minister said: “There is a real sense of momentum behind our high streets and I’m determined that the hard work of people who have strived to make their high streets great places to work, shop and live is not only recognised but shared with others so they too can learn valuable tips for success.”
