Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 19 year-old man riding a bicycle was shot at close range, writes Kate Ferguson.

The man, who was cycling in Monks Park, Wembley was taken to hospital with gun shot wounds to the body and was in a serious condition on arrival.

Police were called by staff at a London hospital before they rushed to the junction of Vivian Avenue and Monks Park, in Wembley, where they found blood and shell casings from bullets.

The gunman fled the scene and it is not known what direction he took.

Forensic scientists scoured the area for evidence before detectives lifted a cordon.

The victim is currently in a stable condition and his injuries are not deemed to be life threatening.

No arrests have been made, and the weapon has not been recovered.

Officers from Operation Trident are investigating the incident, which happened at around 12.15am, last Saturday (31).
