A Wembley man has been jailed for more than 26 years after attempting to murder a hotel maid he became “infatuated” with.

Viorel Radoi, 43, of The Fairway, became infatuated with his 24-year-old victim who threatened to report him to the management at the hotel in Portman Square where they both worked, police said.

The maid, who spurned his advances, was in the basement sorting laundry at 3.40pm on April 20 when Radoi entered and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing.

She managed to call her colleagues for help on an internal phone line.

Police were unable to trace Radoi but he eventually turned himself in at an east London police station on April 23.

He pleaded guilty to a attempted murder charge and was remanded in custody.

He was sentenced to 26 years and three months at Harrow Crown Court on Friday.

Det Con David Lend of Westminster police said: “Thankfully the victim’s injuries did not take her life, although there is sufficient evidence to suggest that Radoi’s intention was to do just that.

“I hope the sentence handed down affords the victim a sense of justice having been done and a measure of closure.”
