Students and staff at a secondary school in Wembley are celebrating after coming in the top 50 schools in the country after putting in top GCSE results this summer.

Wembley High Technology College in East Lane was ranked 35th in a list of 3,625 state secondaries after provisional results showed 85 per cent of students achieved five A*-C grades including English and mathematics.

The provisional results mark a steady climb from last year’s total of 84 per cent achieving five good GCSEs.

According to the Department for Education, students at Wembley High topped the table for state secondaries in Brent as well as smashing last year’s national average of 53.4pc of students collecting the benchmark five A*-C grades including English and Maths.

Senior Associate head teacher Amit Hathi said: “Many, many congratulations to our students.

“We’re very proud of our achievements, not just last year but every year.

“We have very high expectations of our pupils and they are well aware that we push them hard to achieve the best they can.

“We believe that all pupils can achieve their best with the help of very well qualified teachers who are all focussed on learning.

“These results make an incredible difference to the 30pc of students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are then able to go on to university.”

59 per cent of students at the school achieved the English Baccalaureate- the Government’s key measure of students achieving five good GCSE’s including traditionally academic subjects like history, geography and languages- marking a slight fall from last year’s 61pc.

This year 40 students at Wembley High achieved 10 or more top A*-A grades in their exams.
