A group of dancers from Wembley are gearing up for the performance of their lives at Wembley Arena after hot-stepping their way into the next round of a renowned international competition.

Street dance act First Impressions (FI), who are based in the Chalkhill Community Centre in Chalkhill Road, Wembley, are on course to wow crowds at the iconic venue after qualifying for the UK Championships called Street Dance XXL.

Penny Trotman has run the group comprising of 25 children aged between eight and 15 for 24 years.

She said: “Taking children off the street and getting them to utilise their skills to do something positive is what we are all about.

“I think our chances for the competition are high because we work hard enough.”

If successful at their upcoming gig, taking place on July 19, they will face stiff competition from some of the best international dance acts at the World Championships, which takes place the following day -also held in the Wembley Arena.

Ms Trotman, who is a secretary at Newfield Primary School, in Longstone Avenue, Harlesden, said: “I would like to thank parents, the headteacher at the school and Chalkhill Community Centre for their support.

“I would like to urge for people to come and support their local dance group.”
