Abhishek Varma, of Union Road, splashed out £8,000 to have his £40,000 Mercedes S-Class coated in black suede.

The 28-year-old, who has been nominated for young entrepreneur of the year three times, chose the leather material to promote his touring and chauffeur business.

He told the Times: “Part of the reason why I got the coating is to make more business contacts, because people will come up to speak to me about the car.

“The car is different, it stands out and that’s what I like.

“People love the car; they come over to touch it. I have has so many compliments.”

Mr Varma was inspired by a US car accessory website and after careful research he drove the S-Class vehicle to Manchester where it underwent the week-long treatment.

Claiming the car has made him a local celebrity, he added: “People know it’s me when I drive the car along the street,

“Around 20 to 30 people come over to take pictures of the car daily.”
