Wembley legion members joined a recreated historic pilgrimage of 1928 to honour those who died in the First World War.
Standard bearer Shaun Campbell and wreath layer Tony Walton attended the Great Pilgrimage 90 as representatives of the Wembley & Sudbury Branch of The Royal British Legion on August 8.
The ceremony first began in 1928 when 11,000 veterans and war widows visited the battlefields of the Somme and Ypres before marching to the Menin Gate.
Ninety years later 1,100 standard bearers led the one-mile march through the same gate in Ypres to the Commonwealth War Grave Commission’s Menin Gate Memorial.
The pilgrimage saw 2,200 participants visit the WW1 trenches, battlefields and cemeteries of France and Belgium.
Mr Walton, vice chairman & Poppy Appeal organiser, said “Being part of such an historic event, representing Wembley & Sudbury in commemorating those that lost their lives in the First World War, was an honour and something I will never forget.”
