This tree in Neasden is one of thousands in the UK felled by Storm Barney which battered the nation with winds of more than 80mph overnight.

The house in Chesham Street appeared to have escaped any serious structural damage by the tree which fell on to its front windows.

However it was a bleaker outcome for thousand of homes in the UK which have been left without power, and rail passengers who face lengthy delays due to trees being blown on to lines.

The highest winds were recorded at 83mph in coastal areas of North Wales, while gusts of 66mph registered in the villages of Weybourne in Norfolk and Wittering, near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.
