Mosques in Brent threw open their doors to welcome visitors of all faiths as part of a UK-wide event.

Visit My Mosque Day took place on Sunday, February 18 with 200 muslim places of worship visited by the public including the Dar Al Islam Foundation in Cricklewood.

The Anson Road mosque also welcomed Brent MP Dawn Butler and council leader Muhammed Butt.

Volunteer Mohammad Latef hailed the day a great success. Mr Latef said: “In our area we want everyone to know more about Islam and our activities. We want good relations with our non-muslim neighbours.”

During the visit Ms Butler tweeted it was “wonderful to see so many people visiting for a chat and tea”.

Harun Khan, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain said: “Muslims across the UK are yet again sending a strong message that despite what the headlines say, we are open, engaging in dialogue and positively contributing to British public life.”

Ms Butler, shadow minister for women and equalities, said: “I was delighted to visit the Dar Al-Islam Foundation as part of Visit My Mosque Day.

“Events like this are so important in bringing the community together and I would like to thank the mosque and others across Brent for their continued warmth, hospitality and community engagement.

“Events such as this continue to break down barriers and I look forward to continuing to work with many groups from across the borough to tackle all forms of hatred.” she added.

Brent Council leader Cllr Muhammed Butt described Visit my Mosque day as a perfect way for Brent’s muslim community to welcome other communities.

“I was able to drop into the Dar Al Islam Foundation and would like to thank them for having me on what was a wonderful day. I am already looking forward to the next one,” he added.
