A young violinist has been crowned Brent Young Musician of the Year for 2014.

Timothy Crawford scooped the prestigious title with his breathtaking performance of the Andantino (1st movement) from Prokofiev’s 1st Violin Concerto at the finals last week.

His prize includes £400 towards his musical development, his name on the competition’s magnificent Len Williams Memorial Trophy and the opportunity to appear as a guest soloist at the Brent Makes Music

2014 showcase event at Wembley Arena in July.

This was a particular triumph for the youngster, as he was runner up two years ago and this was his final year of eligibility.

Second place went to tuba player, Hafsa Jalisi, while Liam Shinar (a previous finalist in the 2012 event) took the third prize for his performance on violin.

To mark their achievement both also enjoyed a share in the £800 prize fund, provided by the Wembley Charitable Foundation, to help towards their future musical development.

Paul Fensom, Head of Brent Music Service, organisers of the event which was held at Claremont High School in Kenton, said: “Once again, the finalists have astounded us all with their performances.

“Whilst the competition is open to any young musician who lives or attends a school in Brent, this year has been particularly heart-warming for Brent Music Service, to see that four out of the six finalists have been involved directly with BMS, either through lessons with our tutors or as a member of the BMS ensembles.

“We are extremely grateful to the Wembley Charitable Foundation and Wembley Stadium Ltd for their vital support of this initiative, enabling us to showcase the outstanding young musical talent the borough holds.”
