A 25-year-old dental receptionist from Cricklewood is set to take this year’s X-Factor series by storm after wowing judges with a soulful performance at auditions in Wembley on Saturday.
Contestant Lauren Murray, who proudly declared herself a ‘North West London’ girl in a live audition, is already being tipped to win this year’s show after delivering a stunning performance of Jocelyn Brown’s soul classic Somebody Else’s Guy.
The judging panel including Simon Cowell, singers Rita Ora and Cheryl-Fernandez-Versini and BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw, awarded the budding songstress four ‘yeses’, fast-tracking her through to the live performance stages of the competition.
Ms Murray received a standing ovation from audience members after an initial false start due to nerves.
Following her impressive performance the X-Factor hopeful has appeared on ITV’s Lorraine show to talk about her longstanding struggle with depression after the death of her father when she was just 11 years old leading to her being hospitalized and needing therapy for three years after the age of 13.
She also revealed she had told her boss she was sick in order to attend her audition, but reassured the host that the dentist was supportive of her aspirations to become a singer.
A video of Ms Murray’s performance on YouTube has become an internet sensation, clocking up more than 300,000 views in two days.
