Members of Unite Against Fascism (UAF) have claimed a “moral” victory over Britain First’s (BF) anti-Muslim Brotherhood (MB) march which took place in Crciklewood on Saturday.
UAF organised a counter demonstration following a statement posted BF’s their website and Facebook page calling for people to join them in a protestagainst the ousted Egyptian party outside their UK headquarters in Cricklewood Broadway.
Sarah Cox, UAF member, said: “The local people made it quite clear that they are willing to stand up and unite against their extreme views.”
Around 20 supporters of the right-wing party turned up to protest against the MB, following recent revelations of their London base in a cramped flat on top of a derelict shop.
Police ushered BF protesters to a small area opposite the flat.
MB was formally designated as a terrorist organisation on Christmas Day by the current military led government in Egypt.
The group left after an hour.
The counter demonstration numbers were strengthened as passers-by gave up the free time to support their cause.
Brent resident Sajata Aurora, who attended the charity’s demonstration, said “We drowned them out and made it clear they were not welcomed in Cricklewood.
“I think we were able to show that we are united and there views are not welcome in our ethnically diverse community.”
