Unregistered voters who want to have their say in the snap General Election have until midnight on May 22 to register their chance.

Brent Council is urging unregistered eligible voters who want to vote in the nationwide poll on June 8 to sign up today by phone or online.

Carolyn Downs, acting returning officer for Brent said: “It is vital that any unregistered voters who want to have their say in the General Election sign up as soon as possible.

“So far, more than 90% of Brent residents have registered but there are still thousands of people who could be on the electoral register if they want to be. If you are one of those people I’d urge you to register today and not leave it until the last minute.”

Sixteen and 17-year-olds can register themselves so that they will be able to vote as soon as they turn 18. Students who are living away at university can also register at both their term address and home address.

EU citizens resident in the UK are not eligible to vote in this election.

You need a national insurance number to vote and those without one can call 0300 200 3500.

Eligible voters can sign up quickly and easily at gov.uk/register-to-vote or call Brent electoral service on 020 8937 1372.
