Queens Park Rangers boss Ian Holloway will look to pick his side up for their big derby meeting with Brentford on Monday (7.45pm), having been left fuming by their 2-0 defeat at Derby in midweek.

The Bees visit Loftus Road for a Championship clash to be screened live on Sky Sports TV, lying two points above Rs in a congested mid-table.

And Rangers are in need of a lift after slipping to their third straight league defeat at Pride Park, following reverses at Nottingham Forest before the international break and at home against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Rangers had contained Derby well until first-half stoppage time, when Tom Huddlestone’s diagonal pass sent Andreas Weimann away on the right and his low ball was steered in by Matej Vydra.

QPR boss Holloway reacted angrily in his technical area but any chances of recording a first away league win since January ended eight minutes into the second half when Weimann nudged a ball from Curtis Davies to Vydra, who set up Wales international Tom Lawrence to find the bottom corner of the net and claim his first goal for the club.

Rangers went close with a Jamie Mackie header in the 69th minute but had no-one who could match the quality Lawrence showed.

Holloway admitted the first goal “knocked the stuffing” out of his side, saying: “It was too critical. I felt our game-plan was working and it frustrated them.

“The manner of the defeat is not what I’m about and the club’s about. I can take losing, but it’s how you lose sometimes.

“Where was the pressing and the running and the energy?

“We looked like a teddy bear that had the stuffing ripped out and that’s unforgivable for me. We needed the second goal, they got it and after that I’m absolutely fuming.

“I’ve had a few words and I’ll have a few words (on Wednesday). I get knocked down but I get up again. I think we got knocked down and it looked like we needed handles on their shorts for some of them and I’m not happy with it.”

Derby manager Gary Rowett said: “We have only lost one game in 10 and I’ll take bitty performances at times but what we are doing is doing enough in decent spells to win games and that’s the big thing.

“Tom is going to be a big player, he’s got great ability and that goal will be a massive relief I’m sure for him.”
