Two men have been injured in a suspected gas explosion in a housing block in Wembley this morning.

The men were led to safety and treated at the scene following the incident in Kings Drive at 5.10am.

A further 14 people were evacuated from the building.

Two fire engines and 10 firefighters from Wembley Fire Station dealt with the suspected leak in a flat this morning.

When fire crews arrived there was a strong smell of gas but no fire.

A spokesman from Brent Council said: “Early this morning our emergency response officers received a call about a gas explosion at a privately owned leasehold property on Kings Drive and attended the scene to liaise with residents, the emergency services, surveyors and the gas board.

“At 9.30am, the property was declared safe and the residents were allowed to return.”
