A programme that allows budding West End stars from Brent to learn about the arts industry has been given a £40,000 from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The Tricycle Theatre Youth Takeover, which is based in the playhouse in Kilburn High Road, has been named today as a recipient of a grant from a foundation established by the award-winning composer.
More than 300 people from the borough age between 11 and 25 take part in the annual programme which includes training and gaining experience in all aspects of working in a theatre such as directing, acting, stage management, lighting, set and sound design.
It also incorporates masterclasses, hands-on experience and culminates in a week-long takeover of the theatre each spring.
A total of 21 organisations will benefit from the £630,000 worth of funding from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, which was establish in 1992 to promote and sustain the arts industry.
Lord Andrew said: “The creative industry in the UK is thriving, but to retain this vibrancy we need to support the talented young people of all backgrounds who are looking to take their first steps towards a career in the arts.
“I have been lucky enough to enjoy a successful career doing something that I love and am delighted that my Foundation can support young creative’s of the future.”
