A former colleague has paid tribute to a health visitor who was killed in a fire in Kingsbury last week.

Sharon Cherrie, 53, died following a blaze in a shed in the garden of her home in Manor Close, on April 7.

The Trinidadian mother-of-two, who worked for NHS Brent, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patrick Vernon OBE worked with Mrs Cherrie when he was the director of the Brent Health Action Zone, which was part of NHS Brent (Primary Care Trust).

He said: “Sharon was a former colleague and a friend as well as a fantastic health visitor and fundraiser working for Parkside NHS and NHS Brent before she moved in Ealing in 2008.

“She was later seconded to the Brent Health Action Zone as a research fellow where she under took research as part of her master’s programme on work life balance of Caribbean mothers in accessing health and social care services in Brent.

“She loved her children, music and Trinidad.”

“My condolences to the family.”

An inquest into the circumstances of Mrs Cherrie’s death was opened and adjourned at Barnet Coroners’ Court last week.
