Review of The Year

If anyone doubted the Montreal heroes status as indie royalty after Funeral and Neon Bible, their third offering proved a crowning glory of a quality no-one could dispute.

The title track provides bookends to 15 other songs that sum up everything you could imagine about Win and William Butler’s Texan upbringing in the suburbs of Houston.

The songs are very human, very real and very satisfying as they capture the concerns of growing up in the modern world piece by piece.

With works like We Used To Wait, Ready To Start, Empty Room and Suburban War to be enjoyed time and again, The Suburbs is a prime contender for the very best of 2010.
