Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has reiterated how pivotal Tjaronn Chery is to his QPR side at present, admitting that he can’t afford not to have his creative spark in the starting XI.

Chery has found the net four times in 17 appearances so far this season, with two assists along the way. The former FC Groningen man has also created the most chances out of any player in the Championship during that time.

And while Hasselbaink, who has made it clear on numerous occasions how big an admirer he is of the Dutchman’s qualities, says the 28-year-old is not undroppable, he feels it would not be in the best interests of the team if he were on the bench.

He told the Times: “Everybody is droppable in the team, if he needs a rest or we are playing against a team where his assets are not going to be as effective in comparison to other games, then we have to look at it, of course.

“At the moment he is a real outlet for us, so it would be silly not to play him.

“He takes the ball, he creates and makes things happen. If you look at the last two games that we have won he played a big part in these victories.

“He set up the goal for [Idrissa] Sylla’s winner and also played [Massimo] Luongo free in the corner to create our winner, (again from Sylla) against Bristol City.

“He gives us that imagination and freedom in the last third – we need that more from other players as well.

“To take away that [Chery from the team] at this moment – that would be a lot for us to take away from our creativity.”

Elsewhere, the former Burton Albion boss maintains Chery has the capability to play for his country, but believes playing in the Championship may hold the playmaker back from fulfilling these aspirations.

He added: “The problem with that is the fact he plays in the Championship, as stupid as it sounds.

“Ability wise Tjaronn has got enough [to be included in the squad], but I must say that they have got a lot of quality upfront.

“I’m not saying he couldn’t figure in the squad, but that’s going to be very difficult for him in my opinion.”

Chery has yet to make an appearance for the Dutch national side, but was called up to the squad back in May 2015.
