Tickets are still available for a classical concert and ceiligh as the deadline to raise funds for Cricklewood Library ends next Monday.
A classical concert is taking place at St Gabriel’s Church, in Walm Lane, this evening at 7.30pm, part of Cricklewood Library’s Mini Fundraising Festival.
Enjoy a selection of intrumental music, opera arias and song repetoire including works by Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, and Bernstein.
Or kick off your dancing shoes tomorrow (September 22) with a ceilidh at the Clayton Crown, in Cricklewood Broadway from 8pm to 11.55pm.
There is no need to know the moves as the Wraggle Taggle ceilidh band will set the rhythm and a caller will explain the moves.
A comedy evening last night at the Windmill, hosted by MC Mel Byron, raised £404.
Friends of Cricklewood Library (FocL) have until 11.59pm on Monday to raise the final £18,000 needed in order to receive a £40,000 pledge made by Sadiq Khan.
The mayor of London has pledged £40,000 to help rebuild the library in Olive Road but only if the group can raise the full amount of £120,000 by September 25.
Sally Long of FoCL said: “It’s been an amazing thing to raise what we have as August was dead. We’ve done fantastically well and are determined to get there.
“We are going collections outside the Co-op stores, people in Willesden are selling their jams for us, this whole campaign has really galvanised the area.”
The group were devastated after the library, first built in 1929, was closed in 2011.
FocL want to convert the building’s empty shell back into a working library and community hub but the new 2,000 sq ft of space needs plumbing and electrics aswell as bookshelves and tables before they can allow anybody in.
Ms Long added: “The last pledge is at 11.59pm on Monday. It’s nerve wracking but we are going to get there. When you think where we’ve come from it’s extraordinary we only have £18,000 left to raise.
“We will make it. We were ambitious going to the mayor but we’re not going to let anybody down, including Sadiq Khan.
