A new community centre, The Yellow, opens in Wembley Park in the heart of the Brent community. From October 1, the hub will offer a selection of arts and fitness classes, many of which will be free.
The Yellow, Wembley Park’s community centre, will reopen October 1 in brand-new, state-of-the-art premises. Formally The Yellow Pavilion, the centre is delivered by Quintain - the team behind the regeneration of Wembley Park - in partnership with Brent Council. The hub invites residents to take part in the creative and dynamic classes that will further position Brent as the 2020 London Borough of Culture while creating more opportunities for the local community members to come together over shared interests. Many of these classes will be free to attend. From dance and drama classes to coffee mornings for pensioners and even open mic nights, The Yellow has something for everyone in the Brent community.
Rey, ‘Be Smart, Get Fit’ fitness instructor
“Through my work leading the ASICS group run in Wembley Park, I was invited to use The Yellow for classes. I accepted the invitation and I am now proud to call it home. It is a community hub where people can undertake a range of activities delivered by professionals and experienced volunteers. It is a great space where people come together to exercise, discuss, laugh, relax, train and create.”
Brigitte, frequent Tai Chi class participant
“Tai Chi has always appealed to me and just by chance I saw an advert giving me information about lessons at The Yellow. I’m so glad that I contacted Jeff because I thoroughly enjoy his classes. Jeff is a brilliant informative teacher who allows me to the time to learn the various movements at my own pace. These sessions help me to unwind and relax, and I look forward to my Tuesday evenings.”
Anton, Volunteer and Street Dancer
“The Yellow is literally my second home! I found out about the place through a good friend who I also work with on all the projects we run here. Running our dance sessions on a Wednesday allows us to spread our vision of dance and creativity. And let’s not forget all the amazing people I have had the opportunity to meet through various events that The Yellow has held. I really appreciate being a part of and working with the community here.”
