Lauren Pope and Chart Show presenter Donatella Panayiotou pop into see what the charity does
The only way was Kensal Green after a reality television star and a music show presenter visited an animal sanctuary in Kensal Green today.
Lauren Pope who stars in The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE) and Chart Show presenter Donatella Panayiotou popped into The Mayhew Animal Home in Trenmar Gardens, to find out more about the homeless pets in their care.
The two animal lovers wished to do more to support smaller charities in need and spent the afternoon meeting the homeless dogs, cats and rabbits at the rescue centre -even posing in two of the T-shirts from The Mayhew’s own clothing range.
Lauren spent a lot of time cuddling mistreated Maltese, Missy, who is recovering at The Mayhew and building up her confidence before a new home will be found for her.
The stars also met kittens who had been found on a nearby industrial site and exercised one of The Mayhew’s homeless dogs, Chico, who was found as a stray in a nearby park.
They have since been tweeting pictures of their visit and urging fans to support The Mayhew.
Established in 1886, The Mayhew receives no funding from Hammersmith and Fulham Council or the Government.
Instead it relies entirely on donations and legacies from generous benefactors to meet its running costs of around £3,000 a day.
It also relies heavily on kind-hearted volunteers who give up their free time and help the staff with their duties.
In addition to looking after the animals, which are usually dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, the Mayhew also offers a range of veterinary services for pet owners, including free neutering of “bull breed” dogs.
