SUBSTITUTES Glen Garner and Lubo Guentchev both scored as Hendon marked Gary McCann's 200th match in charge by coming from behind for a shock 2-1 victory at AFC Hornchurch.

On paper, Hornchurch are one of the strongest sides in the Ryman League Premier Division, and the struggling Greens' task was made harder when Kevin Maclaren limped off midway through the first half.

Midfielder Lee O'Leary also left the fray before half-time - and things got worse for the visitors as a bundled finish from Paul Shave gave the Urchins the lead.

It was no more than they deserved, having squandered several chances, while Hendon's best effort was a Charlie Mapes drive that cannoned off the bar.

The pattern of the first half continued in the second and the Greens did well to restrict the deficit to a solitary goal.

Garner's 77th-minute equaliser came out of nothing as he rifled a shot from an acute angle to leave Hornchurch goalkeeper Dale Brightly helpless.

And, just four minutes later, Lubo Guentchev gave Hendon the lead - but hero Garner then turned villain by picking up his second yellow card.

The 10 remaining men survived stoppage time, though, clinching a result that lifted the Greens two places in the table - overtaking Harrow Borough, who slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Ashford Town (Middx) at Earlsmead.

Former Borough striker Byron Harrison scored the only goal of the game just before half-time, but Josiah Hunte should have earned the home side a point when he headed Jonathan Constant's cross over 10 minutes from the end.
