A woman from Sudbury is one of more than 100 people arrested over London arms fair protests.

Gaynor Lloyd, 64, from Pebworth Road, was arrested on September 6 and charged with highway obstruction ahead of the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition taking place at the ExCel centre, in the Docklands, this week.

Ms Lloyd, the wife of Labour’s Northwick Park councillor Keith Perrin, is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on September 21.

The biennial DSEI, at the ExCel centre, bills itself as “the world leading event” for buyers and sellers of military equipment.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said that by Sunday afternoon, following a week of protests in the run up to the exhibition, 102 people had been arrested, mostly for obstructing the highway.

The Government has been accused of double standards for participating in arms control talks in Geneva at the same time that London hosts the exhibition.
