THE town was painted green for March 17 St Patrick's Day celebrations as 6,000 revellers made a record turn-out for Brent.

The Celtic celebration kicked off with a parade led by the Mayor of Brent, Councillor Jim O'Sullivan with pipers, floats, dancers and circus performers.

All 32 counties were represented by festival goers carrying flags.

Willesden Green Library Centre hosted two stages of Irish entertainment with the Mullin Family folk music, comedian Deidre O' Kane and Aaron Crosbie Academy of Irish Dancing. However the stars act was the celtic band, Irish Mist.

The winners of the Art Competition based on Irish Legend, Finn Mc Cool, was organised by Brent Youth Volunteers and were announced by the Mayor.

First prize of £50 went to:

4-8 Years Alana Barry St Robert Southwell School

9-13 Years Nikita Patel Alperton School

14-16 Years Tonie-Marie Dyer-Miller Alperton School
