A kind-hearted family raised thousands of pounds for a Kenton hospice that cared for a relative during his last days by taking part in a series of sporting events.
The Cohen family pushed themselves to the limit for one week to raise money in memory of Alan Rustin in support of St Luke’s Hospice which also supported his wife.
The family had spent months training for the fundraising event but sadly Mr Rustin, who had been living with end-stage heart failure for the last few years, died on July 18 before it took place.
The family cycled, swam, run, climbed and played netball to help raise £8,782 for the hospice.
They first took party in the Virgin London Triathlon on August 2, played a fundraising netball match two days later and climbed the four man-made hills at Northala Fields on the A40 near Northolt on August 10.
Melanie Cohen, Mr Rustin’s daughter, said: “My dad had repeatedly defied medics and cardiologists and whilst his prognosis was bleak, his positive attitude and will to live remained steadfast.
“The ripple effect of his deteriorating health was felt throughout our family and had a devastating impact on his main carer, our mum.
“St Luke’s had been there throughout our roller-coaster journey to provide support, care and respite at every twist and turn.
“My dad would have been so proud to have seen my medal.”
