The candidates have been announced for the Kilburn ward by-election following the untimely death of its Labour councillor.

The by-election will take place on May 5, the same day as the London Mayoral and London Assembly elections to make it easier for voters.

Residents have a choice of six candidates following the death of 34-year-old Tayo Oladapo from a long illness earlier this year.

Tilly Boulter, from Harvist Road in Kensal Rise, will stand for the Liberal Democrats.

Elcena Jeffers, is an independent candidate from Lavender Avenue in Wembley.

Peter Murray, who lives in Oxgate Gardens, Dollis Hill, is standing for the Green Party.

Janice North, from Conifer Way, Wembley, is the UK Independence Party (UKIP) candidate.

Pitruzzella Barbara, who lives in Kimberly Road, Brondesbury Park, is representing Labour.

Calvin Robinson from Chamberlayne Road in Kensal Rise, is standing for the Conservatives.

Carolyn Downs, Brent Council’s returning officer and chief executive, is urging residents to make sure they register to vote on May 5.

She said: “Voting is both a democratic right and a civic responsibility too, so I’d encourage anyone who is eligible but not yet registered to vote, to make sure they do so before the deadline.

“Having the Kilburn by-election on the same day as the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections means less hassle for residents in having to turn out and vote on different days, while at the same time keeping cost to the public purse to a minimum.”
