The Sperm Busters is a sex education film for young people being premiered by Brent Council and Sexual Health on Call (SHOC).

About 150 young people from Brent are expected at the two hour screening at Kilburn High Road's Tricycle Theatre on July 1.

The film was commissioned by Brent Council's Youth Opportunities and Youth Capital Fund from SHOC, which runs a condom distribution scheme and education programme in Brent to promote safer sex.

Aimed at a 16 plus audience, this second council film since the award winning Blue Movie, which was produced by the same Brent young people about the adventures of a blueberry condom.

This film picked up two Children & Young People's Services Awards and was voted a resounding success when it was shown to MPs and ministers at the House of Commons.

The producers of both films are former Capital City Academy pupils Amina Islam, Nasim Laxmidas and Jahena Ali.

Cllr Bob Wharton, lead member for children and families said: "A lot of work has been done to reduce the high pregnancy rate in Brent. This film is made by young people for young people, and it is likely to have more impact than lectures by older people.

"I am sure also that the young film makers learned from the experience of making the film."

The Sperm Busters film follows the adventures of a young woman as she travels through her own reproductive system learning about sex, contraception, relationships and self-esteem.

All Brent schools have been invited to the premiere.
