Residents and traders are calling for action to be taken

Traders have called for action following a fatal traffic collision in Kilburn High Road last night.

A male car passenger, believed to be in his 50’s, was killed following a collision with a second vehicle close to the junction of the High Road and Quex Road.

The female driver of the second car, believed to be in her 60’s, failed to stop at the scene but was later traced and arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

She remains in police custody.

The incident is the third death in the High Road in 18 months.

The other two deaths involved pedestrians colliding with vehicles.

Residents and traders fear accidents are becoming far too common and have labelled the High Road a “disaster zone.”

Mary Dwire, landlady of The Cock Tavern pub close the scene of the accident, told the Times she heard shouting and crashes from outside.

She said: “I couldn’t see much but I looked outside and noticed a vehicle on the floor, I couldn’t tell if it was a man or a woman.

“There was lots of shouting and police were on to it straight away so I decided to close early.”

Ms Dwire added: “It’s too dangerous here and especially this stretch of road, people always try and cross without looking.”

Resident Alec Murphy, who lives in Kingsgate Road, told the Times there had been several accidents over the years.

He said: “If you go back through time there have been loads of accidents here but the police won’t tell you about them.”

Bus routes 16, 32, 316, 332 and N16 were all diverted following the incident but returned to their normal route this morning.

There were no other injuries reported from the incident but traders have said something needs to change.

A former market trader in Kilburn Square, who wished only to be known as Mandy told the Times: “It’s terrible that someone has died but its not surprising here, there needs to be something done to measure and regulate traffic because its gone on too long.

“The amount of times we have had to go and assist with an accident is awful.”

Officers from Northolt Road Death Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses.
