Anthony Neal will take part in the extreme challenge in memory of his grandparents who were cared for at the hospice.

Not one for the faint-hearted, the Bear Grylls Survival Race was voted best new obstacle race in 2015 and 2016 with both the 5km and 10km courses designed to push participants to the limit.

Mr Neal, from Pinner, is a long-time fundraiser for the Kenton hospice where his grandparents were looked after and is taking up this latest challenge to repay them for their care.

He said: “Each year I look for a new challenge to raise funds for St Luke’s. I have done a half marathon for the past three years and now wanted something different to test me.

“I saw on the St Luke’s website that they had places for the Bear Grylls Survival Race, I had not heard of this before and thought I would give the challenge a go.

“I then spoke to some friends and they all really want to join me in taking part.

“St Luke’s is a cause very close to my heart as both my nana and grandad were cared for there in recent years. The care they recieved in their final years was second to none and I feel the least I can do is some running about and making myself look silly to help raise money for the hospice to repay their support in some way.

“Both myself and family have taken part in loads of events for the hospice as wea re all fully aware of how important donations are in the running of the hospice.”
