The Royal Oak in the High Street is opening its doors tomorrow with a new menu, cheaper drinks and free cordial refills for youngsters at the weekend.

The pub closed down in January after it failed to attract enough drinkers less than a year after it underwent a £500,000 makeover.

The two-storey venue, owned by Urban Pubs & Bars Ltd, hasn’t needed further renovation but has completely changed its approach, holding consultations with residents as to what they want.

Jonathan Dixon, manager of the pub, said: “We’re trying to get it right this time as before we got it wrong. It was too expensive for most people.

“We held a residents’ meeting and got amazing feedback. Residents also emailed us with their concerns. What they want and what they don’t want.”

Mr Dixon said there are plans to offer quiz nights, DJ nights and live bands as well as showcasing football games.

He added: “We’re focussing on what we can offer and the quality of our staff this time.

We have a new menu, a rotisserie, Sunday lunch, all cooked infront of customers in our open kitchen. We are also offering cheaper draft beer.”

He added: “We hope different community groups will come in and use the facilities as we have a great function room and want it returned to its full potential especially as its one of the nicer ones in the area.

“We want people to feel they can bring their families, have quality food and drink and it won’t cost the earth.”
