ROWAN Vine has confirmed he expects to leave QPR soon on a free transfer after beginning negotiations to cancel his contract.

The Rangers forward has been frozen out during pre-season, featuring in the reserves instead of the first team, and is anxious to reignite his career away from Loftus Road.

The Rs attempted to loan him out on more than one occasion last season, but are now resigned to cutting their losses and reaching a settlement on the final year of Vine's contract.

"I had a couple of conversations with the manager and he told me that it's going to be tough for me to get into the team," said Vine.

"The club have a plan in terms of what they want to do. They think it's best that we come to an agreement, then I can be a free agent and, if it's going to go that way, then obviously I need to do the best I can for myself after leaving QPR.

"In terms of other clubs, there's nothing concrete right now. The main thing at the moment is to sort things out with QPR.

"It's now clear that I won't be going out on loan or anything like that - it's going to be a free transfer and then seeing who's interested. I feel I'm getting fitter by the day and the main thing now is to play more games.

"I'm still fully confident and will be looking to play at the highest level I can.

"If I don't get a club in the Championship then I will be disappointed, but I know the bottom line is that I have to go and get some football."

The 27-year-old first joined Rangers on loan from Birmingham City in October 2007 and completed a permanent 1m transfer three months later.

He was one of the key figures in the Rs' rise up the Championship table in the second half of that season, but then suffered a broken leg in a freak training ground collision with goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Although Vine finally returned to action a year later, he struggled to reproduce his previous form and was unable to hold down a regular place in the Rangers side last season.
