Campaigners opposing a “Twin Towers” development in Wembley have asked that the planning application be held back by the new Mayor of London before building work begins.

Brent Council gave the green light to demolish Chesterfield House in Park Lane, and replace it with 21 and 26 storey buildings at its planning meeting last month.

Under planning rules large developments must be signed off by the Mayor of London in what is called a “stage two development”.

Residents living around the new development feel they were not properly consulted and want the application ‘called in’ and looked at again.

Denise Cheong, a Wembley resident, said: “We want to push for the new mayor to call in and get the plans redrawn in the interests of fair consultation for residents.”

She said concerns remain over the height of the towers, infrastructure problems, congestion in the area and parking.

Cllr Sam Stopp, Labour representative for Wembley Central, said: “A number of residents who attend my surgery expressed their concerns to me and asked for the application to be called in by the mayor. Because they have specifically asked for that I am honour bound. I don’t know what will happen, the timing is quite difficult.”
