Hopes of regenerating a neighbourhood have moved a step closer after Brent Council awarded The Unity Neighbourhood Forum designated forum status under the 2011 Localism Act.

The Harlesden based forum, which incorporates Church End and Roundwood, is the second such organisation to be established in Brent, after Sudbury Town Neighbourhood Forum.

Forum secretary Neil Jackson said: “This is the culmination of a process we started in 2012.

“I am delighted that we have achieved our aim of forming the forum, and the community now has to develop its own plan for the neighbourhood.

“We want to work in partnership with Brent Council to regenerate an area that has been allowed to decline for too long.”

Church Road is the Forum’s first priority, where it hopes to influence proposals for the building of flats on a car park and encourage the council to upgrade the declining areas of the road.

The Forum intends to gain charitable status so it can raise funds for projects in the neighbourhood while acting as a legacy of the Fair Share Trust Brent programme which provided £865,000 of funding for projects from 2005-2013.
