Rs held to goalless draw by Tractor Boys in Suffolk

Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway was disappointed to only come away with a point following his side’s 0-0 draw at Ipswich Town in the Championship.

It was a case of the Boxing Day blues for both sides as they carved out chances at either end but failed to capitalise on their opportunities.

The Tractor Boys remain in 10th spot, now five points off a Championship play-off place, while Rangers retained their 18th-place position.

Holloway said: “It was quite an exciting 0-0. There were a few incidents, but we have got to take some of the chances.

“I was delighted that we held ourselves together and managed to create them and think it will come with the people that I have got.

“I feel we will get used to each other as we have had a lot of injuries to the back lads. It’s been an absolute hideous time for us.

“As an away performance, to only get one point out of that I am a little bit disappointed to be honest.

“I thought we looked quite a good team today. That’s four points we have taken off Ipswich.”

Meanwhile, Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy said a draw was a fair result.

“I have no complaints about the scoreline,” he said. “I have complaints about how we played, I’m not really happy with that, but it’s a point, I’ll take it.”

He said one of the downsides to the game was Teddy Bishop being taken off just before half-time as he suffered an injury to his hamstring.

McCarthy revealed he only had 18 fit players to choose from for the game and Bishop “is very down at the moment”.

Ipswich have five games in 15 days and he added: “That’s going to be tough. I need players back from injury, that’s more important.”

QPR midfielder Josh Scowen was shown a red card late on for his second bookable offence on Grant Ward just outside the penalty area and substitute Bersant Celina’s free-kick sailed narrowly over the bar.

It means the midfielder will now miss the trip to Holloway’s former club Millwall, which is on Friday.

The QPR boss will now have to formulate a plan to tame the Lions without Scowen, who has featured regularly for the Rs since moving from Barnsley.
