Youngster marked first league start for Rs by netting winner against Black Cats

Ebere Eze enjoyed a full league debut to remember for Queens Park Rangers, netting the winner in a 1-0 victory at home to Sunderland in the Championship.

After returning in January from a successful loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers in League Two, the talented youngster has had to bide his time for a chance with the Rs.

Having been presented with that opportunity by starting against the Black Cats, Eze certainly more than took his moment.

The 19-year-old netted the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute to hand Ian Holloway’s men all three points against a Sunderland side who played most of the second half with 10 men after keeper Jason Steele was dismissed.

Eze was delighted to make the most of his opportunity, and was pleased he could show everyone exactly what he is capable of.

“I’ve been waiting for my first league start for a long time, so I knew I had to impress and show what I’m about and why I’m starting,” he told the club website.

“You could see the quality and experience Sunderland had; it was the little things that they did.

“I thought I done well and tried my best to get on the ball, which is what I was asked to do, and try to get in the pockets.”

The attacker netted his first goal for QPR in the triumph, having made his debut for the FA Cup third round defeat to Blackburn Rovers in January 2017.

Grabbing his first goal in the blue and white hoops will certainly be a weight of Eze’s back, and the teenager is looking forward to scoring more goals in the future.

“With the goal, I tried to stay calm and pick a side to go; luckily it went in and thank God for that,” he added.

“Goalies generally think you’re going to go across the goal, so I thought I’d give him the eyes and go near post.

“Scoring a goal is a feeling you want all the time and that’s why I’m going to try to score as many goals as I can to get that same feeling back again.”

Eze will certainly hope he can continue to feature regularly for QPR, which will no doubt help him get among the goals more often too.
