Cllr James Denselow is running the New Forest Marathon in Hampshire in September to raise much needed funds for the Mayhew Animal Home in Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green.

It is the second time the Labour councillor has run for the rescue centre, one of the busiest animal welfare organisations in the capital which helps thousands of cats, dogs and other animals escape cruelty and abandonment.

In 2013 he laced his boots for the charity and pounded the 26-mile course in Bournemouth.

Last year the Middle East analyst ran a marathon-and-a-half taking on a 13-mile run in Bethlehem and the full route of the London Marathon for two Middle Eastern charties.

This year he is treading through the home of wild horses.

He said: “The Mayhew Animal Home is one of the most effective animal welfare organisations in London, helping thousands of dogs and cats to escape a life of abandonment, cruelty and neglect each year.

“My cats are registered there and as the lead member at Brent Council responsible for animal welfare I am more than aware as to how important the work they do is. Please give generously to a fantastic organisation that needs our support today!”

Zoe Sheehan, events officer at The Mayhew Animal Home, said: “It costs a massive £6,000 per day to keep The Mayhew Animal Home running to ensure we can rehome and improve the lives and welfare for cats and dogs both in London and internationally. We are funded solely on public donations, so supporters like James truly do make a difference. We couldn’t be more grateful to James for taking part in not one but two marathons for us.”
